Retell AI Reviews

Retell AI reviews

Voice agent infrastructure with low latency and a clean developer surface for builders shipping voice into existing apps.

4.4(38)
Best for engineering teams

Overview

Retell AI competes in the developer voice infrastructure tier alongside Vapi and Bland. Its angle is latency: reviewers consistently flag sub-second turn-taking and natural barge-in handling as differentiators. The SDK is small and the dashboard is focused — there is less of a no-code agent builder layer than Thoughtly or Synthflow, and that's the point. Retell is bought to be embedded.

In the reviewer set, the strongest use cases are voice features inside existing SaaS products (a healthcare scheduler with a voice front-end, an AI receptionist white-labeled into a vertical CRM) and outbound use cases where conversation quality matters. The most common gap mentioned is enterprise compliance documentation — fine for teams that own their compliance program, friction for procurement-led buyers.

Horrible Interface, Wouldn't Recommend

Verified

Everything about the user interface was much more difficult than it should have been. There were plenty of UI problems, and plenty of things that don't work. I had to give them my license and some personal information for verification, and then exchange emails with them just to find out it worked all along. The initial setup was very difficult.

Latency where it matters

Sub-second turn-taking and barge-in handling that actually feels natural. Patients dont pause mid-sentence to wait for the bot. The SDK is small enough that we read it end to end before adopting it.

Easy to embed

We shipped a voice receptionist feature inside our product in under a quarter. The dashboard is focused — Retell doesnt try to be a CRM. That clarity is the point.

Conversation quality is the differentiator

Verified

We tested four platforms on outbound recovery calls. Retells conversations felt the most natural. Procurement asked for more enterprise compliance documentation then was available which slowed us down.

Engineering-owned, and that's fine for us

Theres less no-code surface than the platform vendors. Our engineering team owns the agent definitions and thats the workflow we wanted. The trade off is that non-engineers cant iterate quickly.

Solid foundation to build a product on

We white labeled Retell into a vertical receptionist product. Reliability has been consistant. Pricing is transparent enough that we could model unit economics before launch.
